India’s double centurion Mayank Agarwal said it is important to score big after getting set following the end of day two of their first Test match against Bangladesh at Holkar Stadium Friday.
Largely thanks to Agarwal’s second double ton in 13 innings, India piled on the runs on day two, taking a commanding 343-run first-innings lead.
And Agarwal said given the uncertainties of a cricketer’s career, it is imperative for a batsman to make the most of his opportunities once he gets going in the middle.

“I must respect the game that I am batting well. When I am batting well I have to make sure that I make it a big score and put my team in driver’s seat or put in such a position that they cannot lose from there. Knowing that you are batting well, it’s now on you to take the team ahead,” Agarwal told the media Friday.
“There will be times when you will be going to get good balls, get tough wicket to bat and get stuck in middle of good spells. So you have to respect the game enough or respect the situation enough to understand it and make it count into a big one. And keep going on.
“The wicket has something for the fast bowlers in the morning because of the moisture. Bangladesh bowled well, were tight initially. We were waiting for loose balls and since we got those, we started to put it away and that was our way of putting pressure back to opposition. And later on, pitch didn’t assist the spinners and we capitalized on that.”
