Bangladesh U-19 team’s brilliant winning run in New Zealand came to an end as they lost to hosts New Zealand U-19 side by four wickets in a high scoring Youth ODI at Lincoln on Wednesday.

Bangladesh, who have already clinched the five-match series by winning the first three match, were sent into batting before they posted a formidable 295/8 thanks to a combined effort but the hosts could reach 296/6 in 49.1 overs to earn their first win in the dead rubber.

Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hossain made a brisk start before getting dismissed for 51 off 44 and leaving the side on 71 in 12th over. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shahadat Hossain got out cheaply scoring 12 and 13, respectively batting at three and four but opener Parvez Ahmed Emon made 55 and took the score past 150-run mark.

The best part of Bangladesh’s innings came from captain Towhid Hridoy and Akbar Ali as the duo formed a 104-run stand off just 84 balls. Akbar made a swash-buckling 66 off 44 balls before he perished but Hridoy made the highest 73 and helped his side post a substantial score.

The visitors tasted early success while defending the score as they got rid of New Zealand opener Devan Vishvaka for just eight but the other opener Ollie White and batsman Fergus Lelmann,   scored 45 and 76 respectively, to add 123 runs for the second wicket to keep the run chase on.

Bangladesh got them out in the space of two overs to reduce New Zealand to 144/3 in the 24th over but skipper Jessie Tashkoff and William Clark made a crucial 64-run partnership to swing the momentum in their favour.

Clark got out for 34 but captain Tashkoff navigated the ship home with a sublime knock of 66 and remained not out till the end.

The final match of the series will take place on Sunday at the same venue.
