Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to give the fitness issue paramount interest as they have decided to involve only the fittest of the cricketers in the upcoming edition of the National Cricket League [first-class cricket tournament] but the test proved too daunting for some familiar names.
The bar in the Beep Test, the gauge of measuring fitness, has been increased by two levels comparing to the previous season as the cricketers to get selected for their respective division teams in the tournament must reach minimum 11 on the beep test this time round.
But this has also put names of some big name cricketers in the domestic circuit in trouble. National discards in shape of Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak, Nasir Hossain and Elias Sunny have been reported to have not crossed even level 10 in the test on Tueday.
BCB national selector Habibul Bashar however informed the cricketers does not have any limited number of opportunities for appearing in the test.
“They can keep on giving the test until the desired level is reached. A cricketer can get selected for his respective team only after passing the test,” said Bashar to the media on Tuesday.
“This fitness task was there even last season but the passing level this time has been increased. Most of the players have taken this positively as this is doing good both to the cricketer and the competition. So far we have received results only from Dhaka and 96 percent of the cricketers have passed the test,” former Bangladesh captain added.
NCL season 2019-20 is set to start from October 10 with participation of eight teams divided into two tiers.
