Tamim back in practice after sabbatical

Tamim skipped the lone Test against Afghanistan at home, and also the ongoing tri-nation T20I series involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe

Update : 22 Sep 2019, 11:43 PM

National opener Tamim Iqbal returned to action as the left-handed batsman attended an hour-long batting session at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday.

The southpaw following a below-par performance in the World Cup 2019 in England and Wales and in the three-match ODI series against host Sri Lanka took a break from competitive action.

Tamim skipped the lone Test against Afghanistan at home, and also the ongoing tri-nation T20I series involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

Tamim in August had requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board for a brief hiatus and it was approved right away.

This had come on the back of BCB's decision to give Shakib al Hasan a break, following a request from the all-rounder, as he got leave during the Sri Lanka ODIs.

The BCB had allowed Shakib time off during the 2017 Test series against South Africa.

It is understood that during the month-long break, the premier opener of the country had spent time abroad with family and worked on his fitness.

Tamim yesterday took to the nets at the BCB Academy and spent a good hour in the nets under the supervision of budding coach Humayun Kabir.

Tamim batted against a fleet of local spinners involving out of favor national spinners like Elias Sunny and Sohrawardi Shuvo.

The 30-year old Tamim aims to return to action for Bangladesh in the side’s next assignment, the tour of India in November.

The Tigers are scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests.

Tamim however, is planning to get some match time, before the tour of India, playing the first couple of matches of the upcoming National Cricket League, a first-class cricket.

The highest run-getter in Bangladesh’s Test history will feature for his home division Chittagong in the second tier of the tournament.
