Nabi to retire from Tests after Chittagong five-dayer

The news of 34-year old Mohammad Nabi retiring from Test cricket was confirmed to the media by Afghanistan team manager Nazim Jar Abdurrahimzai following day two’s play in the port city

Update : 06 Sep 2019, 09:01 PM

Veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to retire from longer-version cricket following their lone Test match against host Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

The news of 34-year old Nabi retiring from Test cricket was confirmed to the media by Afghanistan team manager Nazim Jar Abdurrahimzai following day two’s play in the port city.

“Yes, he will retire after the ongoing Test and wants to make way for the young players in the team. Nabi will however, continue playing ODI and T20I for Afghanistan,” Abdurrahimzai informed.

It is being widely reported that Nabi thought of the decision with the vision of prolonging his career with the white-ball.

He also wants to reserve time to play the franchise T20 leagues as he is a regular in the Indian Premier League, Big Bash and Pakistan Super League.

Afghanistan are not part of the ICC World Test Championship.

They will next face the West Indies in the one-off Test, scheduled to begin from November 27 in Dehradun, India.

Nabi has played three Tests for Afghanistan, including the ongoing one in Chittagong, since the country was handed Test status in 2017.

With the white-ball, Nabi has played 121 ODIs and 67 T20Is for Afghanistan.
