U-16s off to winning start in one-dayers

Host Bangladesh U-16 got off to a winning start in the three-match one-day series against Pakistan U-16. 

The young Tigers in the first game of the series defeated the tourist by 89 runs in Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium Saturday.

The victory for Bangladesh came over an effort as a team. 

Sent in to bat first after losing the toss, Bangladesh team posted 228 losing nine wickets in their stipulated 50 overs. 

The home side were struggling with the bat, losing seven wickets with just 109 on the board. 

Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi batting at No 7 however, took the charge to steady the boat and scored a 71-ball 66 with four boundaries and an over boundary to guide his side to a competitive total.

Right-arm pacer Farhad Khan bagged four wickets for Pakistan to lead the bowling chart.

Later, Bangladesh’s bowling attack ensured of dismissing the Pakistan batters in regular intervals, bringing an end to the chase with 139 on the board. 

Mushfiq Hasan, Azizul Haque Rony and Rabbi picked up two wickets apiece to restrict Pakistan well short of the chase. 

Middle-order batsman Kashif Ali scored 64, the highest in Pakistan’s innings.

The second one-day game between the two sides will be held Monday at the same venue.
