The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to change the design of Bangladesh’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 jersey. Following severe backlash regarding the design, the cricket governing body of the country took immediate action to change the Tigers’ attire for the World event.
The BCB on Monday, revealed two Bangladesh jerseys, as home and away kits for the World Cup. The design of the home jersey, which is completely green, faced heavy criticism both in social and mainstream media. The common sentiment was that the home jersey should have some amount of “red” in it to resemble the Bangladesh national flag.
BCB chief executive officer, Nizamuddin Chowdhury and chairman of media and communication, Jalal Younus informed the media about the change being made.
"There is no red on the home jersey. The new design will have red in it. Initially, the design had red in it. The team's name, Bangladesh, was in red. But ICC did not approve of it. There is probably a guideline of ICC that the team names will have to be in white. Now we will have to put the red colour somewhere else in the jersey," said Nizamuddin to the media.
It is understood that the new jersey design has been approved by the International Cricket Council. In order to meet the public demand, a hint of red has been added on the chest and sleeves to the existing jersey design as well as in the trousers.
Earlier, BCB president Nazmul Hassan following the general reaction took to a private TV channel on Monday night and informed of the change.
