Abahani Limited went two points close to Dhaka Premier League table-topper Legends of Rupganj following the Sky Blues’ 45-run win over arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited Wednesday at BKSP.
Batting first, Abahani posted a competitive 304 losing seven wickets in their stipulated 50 overs, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Mithun and Mosaddek Hossain all celebrating their call-up to the Bangladesh squad for the World Cup 2019 in England and Wales with quickfire fifties.
Sabbir made 64 while Mithun and Mosaddek chipped in with 56 and 54 not out respectively.
Saifuddin, also named in Bangladesh’s World Cup party, struck 41 in the latter overs to take Abahani past the 300-run mark.
Shafiul Islam, who missed out on a place in the squad, bagged three wickets for Mohammedan while Rahatul Ferdous notched two.
Pacer Mashrafe bin Mortaza has achieved another milestone in his illustrious career as he crossed the landmark of taking 400 wickets in List A cricket.https://t.co/XGRNvBYRgQ#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #BANGLADESH #BANGLADESHCRICKET #CRICKET #MASHRAFE #MASHRAFEBINMORTAZA #MASH

Chasing 305, Mohammedan were dismissed for 259 in 46.3 overs, Raqibul Hasan (96) and Mohammad Ashraful (68) unable to take their side home.
Raqibul and Ashraful added 128 for the fifth wicket to briefly re-ignite hope of a Mohammedan win but Mosaddek and Mashrafe bin Mortaza shared six wickets between themselves to put pay to the Black and Whites’ prospects.
In the process, Mashrafe became the second Bangladeshi to take 400 List A wickets after Abdur Razzak.
Following the defeat, Mohammedan prop up the bottom of the Super League points table.
