In the first day of the 50 over matches in the Dhaka Premier League, newcomer Uttara Sporting Club stunned Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by nine runs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali stadium in Fatullah.

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, Sheikh Jamal failed to capitalise on it as Uttara got off to a solid start, posting 113 for their first wicket before opener Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for 64.

The other opener, Anisul Islam Emon also departed soon after for 47 and both were dismissed by leg-spinner Tanbir Hayder.

Sojib Hossain then held forte and stayed not out scoring 61, along with a quickfire 38 from Minhaz Khan, to guide Uttara to 249/4 in 50 overs.

In reply, Sheikh Jamal lost two early wickets before Fardeen Hasan (39) and Nasir Hossain (48) got them back in the game.

When Nasir departed with the score on 149/4 after 36 overs, the match was still in the balance but then Tanbir departed with the score at 156 in the 39th over to give Uttara the edge.

From there captain Nurul Hasan and Ziaur Rahman took the score past 200 before Nurul departed for 65.

Ziaur then went after hitting a few meaty blows for 27 with the score at 219/7 in the 48th over.

With wickets tumbling, the tail managed to take the score to 240/9 in their 50 overs with Uttara’s Abdur Rashid the pick of the bowlers taking 3/44 in his 10 overs to become man-of-the-match.

UTTARA 249/4 (Tanzid 64, Tanbir 2/22) beat SHEIKH JAMAL 240/9 (Nurul 65, Rashid 3/44) by nine runs.
