The stage is all set for the grand finale of the Dhaka Premier League T20 as Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited brace for the battle of supremacy in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday.

The game gets underway at 6pm and GTV will telecast it live.

An exciting final is on the cards after the 20-over format drew plenty of attention, as well as spectators, in the group stage and the semi-finals with high-scoring matches and thrilling finishes.

And once again, fans can witness the final without tickets.

Both the captains have promised an exciting finale, and heaped praise on the competition, ahead of the tournament’s 50-over event, beginning in a few days’ time.

“Total of 12 teams started this tournament. Now, two teams are playing in the final. It was a competitive tournament. We have played a very competitive competition before the DPL. It will really help the players,” said Sheikh Jamal captain Nurul Hasan to the media Sunday.

“There is no big, tough or weak opponent in T20 cricket. Anybody can win. They are definitely a strong contender. But we are also a very balanced team, and confident of bringing the result in our favour.

“We are focusing on our own game plan, rather that thinking too much about the opposition. Team spirit is our main strength as a team. We had a good partnership in the semi-final which boosted our confidence. But we need to start fresh [Monday] in the final and hopefully we will play well.”

Doleshwar skipper Farhad Reza erred on the side of caution on the eve of the final, and said it will be a competitive contest.

“They are very competitive team. They have some power players in their batting. Zia bhai (Ziaur Rahman) is in good form. Their bowing unit is also strong. We will definitely try to implement out plan against them. Both teams are strong actually. We have to play our best cricket to win the tournament. It’s a T20 game, the team who perform better out there will win eventually,” said Reza to the media.

Both captains agreed that the tournament is a great platform for local players to test their mettle in the shortest format.

They expressed hope that the competition will take place more often to help the local cricketers hone their skills.

“There are the kind of tournaments happening in many countries in order to improve the local players. In BPL, four foreign players are playing, and mostly they play in the top-order. So often there are limited chances for the local players. This kind of tournament is really helpful for local players to adapt to T20 cricket. It’s a very important tournament for us. Hopefully, we will get more matches in future,” said Nurul.

“Actually in BPL, local players often get limited chance and game time. Foreign players play a lot of T20 matches all around the world. But as local players, we may play six-eight T20 games every year. If we can play eight to 10 T20 matches every year before the BPL, then definitely our local players will perform better in the BPL. So this kind of tournament is important for us,” said Reza.
