The first ever Dhaka Premier league T20 tournament start with excitements like a super over and a hat-trick as Abahani Limited, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Shinepukur Cricket Club and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) got off to winning starts in the opening day on Monday.
At the Sher-e-Bangla national stadium, Sheikh Jamal won by 11 runs against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in the first match of the day before Abahani won by 26 runs against Brothers Union in the evening match.
At Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Shinepukur won by five wickets against Legends of Rupganj in the first match while BKSP won by 2 runs in super over against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in the afternoon match.
Abahani Limited vs Brothers Union
After winning the toss Abahani lost both their openers when the score was just seven, but one-down Sabbir Rahman made a brilliant 58 off 43 balls with five fours and two sixes. He made a crucial 52-run stand with Mosaddek Hossain (23), before adding 58 with Jahid Javed, who made 44 off 33 balls, to help Abahani make 150/7 in 20 overs.
Brothers’ opener Fazle Mahmud got out in the first ball but Yasir Ali (41) and Mizanur Rahman (30) added 67 runs in 60 balls to give a good base. But the latter batsmen other than Shafiullah, who made 31, got out in single figures to let down their cause. Spinner Nazmul Islam took three wickets for Abahani.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club v Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity
A combined effort of Sheikh Jamal batsmen saw the side posting a formidable 169/5 after losing the toss. Nurul Hasan made highest 43 while Nasir Hossain scored 34.
In reply, Khelaghar started their innings confidently and at one stage they were 115 for 1 in 15 overs. But after the dismissal of Robiul Islam Robi, who scored 69 off 51 balls, Khelaghar lost the plot and eventually were 11 run short. Shahidul Islam picked four wickets for Sheikh Jamal and was adjudged man of the match.

Legends of Rupganj v Shinepukur Cricket Club
The first match of the day in Fatullah was curtailed to 13 overs due to rain before the experienced Shahriar Nafees made unbeaten 46 off 24 balls to help his side reach 115/5.
In reply, Shinepukur reached their target with three balls to spare and five wickets in hand as their captain Shuvagata Hom played a whirlwind innings of 32 off just 10 balls to secure full points.
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club v Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan
BKSP won a thriller through super over against Doleshwar in Fatullah. Doleshawar posted a modest total of 111-9. Seamer Manik Khan picked up a hat-trick early in BKSP's chase and reduced them to 16-4. Manik got a wicket in the final two balls of the opening over before picked on in the first ball of the third over.
However, Shamim Hossain (45) and Akbar Ali (41) resurrected the innings and their 80-run stand took them to the driving seat but BKSP lost three wickets in the space of three balls to become 96/7 in the 18th over to be pegged back. They needed two off the last ball but last man Hasan Murad was run out to see the stipulated 20 overs ended in a tie and the super over was required to separate the sides.
BKSP scored 6 runs in the super over. Prime Doleshwar needed seven runs to win but they managed to score only 4 and lost two wickets and thus BKSP won the match by 2 runs in the end in super over.
