U19s 299 away from series sweep

Bangladesh U-19 cricket team are 299 runs away from a win in the second and final four-day match against England U-19, at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

The home side will resume their second innings Monday on the fourth and last day on 34 for the loss of one wicket in 7.3 overs, looking to make a clean sweep of the four-day series after winning the first game by eight wickets at the same venue earlier this month.

Bangladesh also swept their English counterparts in the three-match one-day series, and won the solitary T20.

The junior Tigers received a slight setback in the dying stages of day three when opener Amit Hasan departed for six.

The other opening batsman Tanzid Hasan was not out 28.

Earlier Sunday, Bangladesh resumed their first innings on 194 losing six wickets in 68 overs, aiming to go as close as possible to England’s tally of 337.

However, the host added just 34 for the loss of their remaining four wickets in 20 overs, thus handing the visiting side a first-innings lead of 109 runs.

Middle-order batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy top-scored for his side with 74, while England seamer Kasey Aldridge bagged four wickets.

In reply, England extended their lead to 332 when they declared their second innings on 223 for eight in 54 overs, No 3 batsman Jamie Smith leading the way with 104.

Bangladesh’s Minhazur Rahman notched four wickets.
