Stand-in captain of the Windies for the ODI series, Rovman Powell had mixed feelings about his team’s performance after another defeat in the 50-over practice match at the BKSP 3 ground in Savar Thursday.
They batted well to score 331/8, but could not defend such a big total with BCB XI scoring 314/6 in 41 overs before bad light stopped play and the host won by 51 runs via the D/L method.
“I think it was a good game. Unfortunately, we didn’t come up and was disappointed but we had a lot of positives to take before the first game,” said the right-handed batsman.
Powell was complimentary of the innings that Tamim Iqbal played in his first match after returning from injury scoring 107 from just 73 balls.
Results haven’t been ideal but that doesn’t mean we give up. The guys are out in fog and chilly weather in Savar for a practice match ahead of the ODI series vs @BCBtigers #WindiesCricket #ItsOurGame pic.twitter.com/rHUEiJ3js4

“I think it was a pretty good innings. Getting hundred at any time and any wicket is really good. It was a pretty good innings from my stand point,” Powell said.
The 25-year old was happy with the wicket as it was a good one to bat on, but he is expecting the wickets to be more spin-friendly during the ODI series, which begins Sunday.
“Yes, the pitch was good. It’s a good one-day wicket. Bangladesh’s strength is spin but they put in a pretty good wicket just before the first game that’s something to think about. Just like the Test games, we believe that the pitch will benefit spinners here,” Powell concluded.
