Bishoo: We should’ve taken two more wickets

The Windies scripted a good comeback in the middle session, but an unbroken 69-run sixth-wicket partnership between captain Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah took Bangladesh in a better position at stumps on day one

Update : 30 Nov 2018, 07:32 PM

West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo informed that they should have taken more wickets on day one and put pressure on the Bangladesh batting.

Bangladesh finished the day on 259 for five. They lead the series 1-0.

The Windies scripted a good comeback in the middle session, but an unbroken 69-run sixth-wicket partnership between captain Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah took Bangladesh in a better position at stumps on day one.

“The pitch is better than the previous one. It is just a bit slow. It is flatter. It is good for batting. Let’s see how long it lasts. At the end of the day, we should have taken two more wickets but I think 259/5 is an honest day’s work. We just have to take the two wickets early [Saturday] and get into the tail,” said Bishoo during the post-day press conference in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Friday.

The Tigers are heading towards a good first-innings total with quite a few batsmen still left to bat.

Bishoo admitted the West Indies need to bat properly to chase the tally.

“The wicket will hold up a bit for the first three days. It will play good. But we have to see how it goes from the third afternoon onwards. We have to get them out as early as we can. The first innings is very important. No matter how the wicket plays, we have to bat properly. We have to play well to win the match. It is a long way ahead but we are focused on what we have to do. We have to find a way to bat against the spinners properly,” the leg-spinner concluded.
