Shadman plays 199 deliveries on debut innings

Shadman Islam created a record for Bangladesh of playing the highest deliveries as an opener on Test debut

Debutant Shadman Islam played a solid innings on Test debut as the 23- year left hander scored 76 off 199 balls before being adjudged leg before wicket against Devendra Bishoo in the fifth delivery of the 59th over. 

He created a record for Bangladesh of playing the highest deliveries as an opener on Test debut.

The previous record belonged to Nazimuddin, who faced 168 balls in the second innings against Pakistan, scoring 78. 

The record of scoring fifties as an opener on Test debut was previously shared by Javed Omar, Tamim Iqbal, Nazimuddin, Junaid Siddique and Hanna Sarkar. 

However, only three batsmen have scored centuries for Bangladesh on Test debut - Aminul Islam (145 off 340 balls) against India in 2000, Mohammad Ashraful (114 off 212 balls) against Sri Lanka in 2001 and Abul Hasan Raju (113 off 123 balls) against the West Indies. 

Shadman’s 76-run innings is the seventh highest for Bangladesh on Test debut.
