Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan expressed concerns regarding the poor run of form of the opening wicket partnership in Tests.
The Tigers’ opening stand was broken in the first over of the first innings, and in the second over of the second innings against the West Indies in the first Test match.
This year, the Bangladesh openers put on 72 and 52 in the first Test against Sri Lanka and four and three in the second Test, 10 and 14 in the first Test against the West Indies and 20 and two in the second Test, eight and 56 in the first Test against Zimbabwe and 13 and nine in the second Test, and one and 13 against the Windies in the first Test.
Shakib: Taijul was our best bowler even in first innings #Bangladesh captain #Shakib al Hasan has praised in-form left-arm spinner #Taijul Islam and said he was their best bowler in the match.https://t.co/UQ4QmMiIu5

“It’s unfortunate to have like 10 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of two wickets. There is no guarantee that the Nos 3, 4, 5 or 6 batsmen in the batting line-up will score big. So if we can score runs in the opening slot then definitely it will be comfortable for us. So in that sense, shaky starts in opening is a little bit alarming for us. If Tamim [Iqbal] can earn his fitness before the second Test and play then I believe we can rely on that,” said Shakib during the post-match press conference at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Saturday.
Bangladesh won the first Test by 64 runs.
The second and final Test of the series will begin on November 30 at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
