Moments of the day, 1st Test, Day 2: Subashish's premature celebration and Soumya's escape

Update : 08 Mar 2017, 11:54 PM
Premature Subashish celebration off a sixerBangladesh paceman Subashish was caught in the midst of a bizarre celebration when he though he got rid of Mendis. Mendis failed to clear the ropes while attempting a big shot and Subashish thought it was caught properly by Mustafizur Rahman. The incident was a bit funny as the umpire signalled a six whilst Subashish was celebrating with joy. It happened in the last ball of the 95th over. Subashish sent down a bouncer in the line of the middle stump and Mendis played a hook only to get a top edge. Fine-leg fielder Mustafizur, who was inside the boundary ropes by about five yards, ran backwards, got under it, but made no attempt to avoid the boundary line. As it were, he stepped on the ropes while grabbing the catch. The bowler thought it was out and celebrations followed. Mendis, who was reprieved on nought, was finally dismissed for 194 in a similar fashion. But this time, Tamim Iqbal was aware of the ropes. He first took the catch, tossed it up inside the boundary before returning to grasp the catch cleanly. And so, it was third time unlucky for Mendis.Soumya’s lucky escapeSoumya Sarkar and Tamim formed the highest partnership for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka. And just like Sri Lanka, lady luck shone on both the opening batsmen as Sri Lanka let them off the hook during the third and final session. Soumya was dropped by Dilruwan Perera, who grassed a straightforward chance at gully off the bowling of Suranga Lakmal. It was full outside off stump, Soumya tried to drive on the up and got an outside edge that flew towards Perera, who didn't react quickly enough. On day one, Mendis survived in his very first ball before going on to score 194. Can Soumya do the same for the Tigers? Only time will tell.
