The Bangladesh U-19 cricket team went 1-0 up against their Sri Lankan counterparts in the five-match one-day series after beating them by eight runs in accordance with the Duckworth-Lewis method in Dambulla Thursday.
Batting first, the home side struggled their way to 192 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 43 overs before rain intervened, bringing an end to their innings. Bangladesh’s Shahin Alam bagged four wickets while Shariful Islam took three. Sri Lanka’s Navod Paranavithana top-scored with 83 off 128 balls, featuring seven fours.

In reply, the visiting side made 101 losing four wickets in 20.4 overs before inclement weather caused havoc once again. At this stage, the junior Tigers were eight runs ahead so they were declared the winner. Bangladesh’s Akbar Ali was not on a 36-ball 30 while Shamim Hossain was unbeaten on 27 off 43 deliveries. The Lankans’ Paranavithana and Ashian Daniel notched two wickets apiece.
The first one-dayer at the same venue Tuesday was washed out due to rain. The third one-dayer will take place Saturday. The two teams earlier played out a 1-1 draw in the two-game four-day series.
