On a dramatic final day, which could have seen all three results possible, Sri Lanka-U19 defeated visitors Bangladesh-U19 by 74 runs at Katunyake to level the youth Test series 1-1.

Beginning the day at 75-1, the young Tigers would have fancied their chances with a target of 351, but lost wickets at regular intervals to the off-spin bowling of Rohan Sanjaya (5-96) and Ashian Daniel (3-45) to be teetering at 144-6.

From there, some partnerships happened at the lower order where Akbar Ali batted well Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (23) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (26) to take the score to 240-7. Unfortunately Akbar ran out of partners at the other end and the innings finished at 276 with him top scoring with 90.

The four-day Test started with Sri Lanka-U19 winning the toss and electing to bat first. They posted a score of 226 and with taking 5-37; the Bangladesh-U19 side looked to be on the ascendency.

But the hosts quickly changed the complexion of the match as Ashian Daniel and Rohan Sanjaya took five wickets each to spin Bangladesh into a web and have them collapse from 77 for no loss to 109 all-out.

That would prove to be the turning point of the match as Sri Lanka then scored 233-9 before declaring. For Bangladesh, Rakibul Hasan was the pick of the bowlers as he took 7-93 in 42 overs.

The series now moves on to the limited overs format and the first ODI is on 30th October in Dambulla.
