India and Sri Lanka took one step closer to the semi-finals of the U-19 Asia Cup after registering comprehensive victories in their respective group stage matches Sunday.
At BKSP in Savar, India thumped the UAE by 227 runs while the Lankans thrashed Hong Kong by 10 wickets in Chittagong.
India were propelled by centuries from openers Anuj Rawat (102) and Devdutt Padikkal (121) as they posted 354 for the loss of six wickets in their stipulated 50 overs. In reply, the Emiratis were skittled out for 127 in 33.5 overs, left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai bagging six wickets for India.

The Lankans on the other hand, reached their target of 57 in just 9.2 overs after bundling Hong Kong out for 56 in 33.1 overs. Sri Lanka’s Shashika Dulshan notched six wickets as only one Hong Kong batsman (Adit Gorawara - 10) reached double digit.
India now have four points from two matches to lead Group A while Sri Lanka lead Group B with the same number of points from two games.
Host Bangladesh are third in Group B and will be up against Pakistan Monday in a crucial clash in the port city. The junior Tigers must win in order to stay alive in the tournament after losing their opening match against the Lankans by six wickets Saturday in Chittagong.
