Mashrafe unsure about Liton dismissal

The Bangladesh opener had failed to anticipate a googly and played the ball on line

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza was unsure about the dismissal of Liton Das in the Asia Cup final against India Friday.

The Tigers were asked to bat first and it was Liton Das who really piloted the innings alone.

As Liton propelled the innings from one end, the other Bangladesh batters failed to rise to the occasion.

Despite the situation, Liton continued strong and blasted his maiden ODI ton, and international career-highest 121 runs, before getting removed from a controversial decision as Bangladesh lost a crucial wicket in a vital moment.

The Tigers eventually went down to defeat by three wickets as the Indians prevailed in their nail-biting chase.

“It is hard to tell to be honest. At one point we felt it was not out. I think the third umpire can say it better. Maybe it will be discussed later (in the team meeting),” said Mashrafe following the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

In the last ball of the 41st over, and with chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav on the attack, India had appealed for a close stumping of Liton.

The Bangladesh opener had failed to anticipate a googly and played the ball on line.

His feet initially went out of the line when wicket-keeper MS Dhoni disturbed the wickets.

TV replays showed Liton had reacted well to get his right leg towards the line, but third umpire Rod Tucker thought the foot was on the line, as opposed to inside the line in order to be safe.

The dismissal paved the way for an uproar among the Bangladesh supporters, who took to different social media platforms and questioned the credibility of the third umpire’s decision.

Bangladesh managed to score 222, which India chased down, but only in the last ball of the game.

Despite a tough total to defend, the Tigers bowlers put up an epic fight, taking India’s chase right till the very end.
