Bangladesh’s opening batsman Tamim Iqbal’s Asia Cup fate became uncertain as he was forced to leave the ground after fracturing his wrist during their opening match against Sri Lanka Saturday.
Bangladesh opted to bat before Sri Lanka right-arm pacer Suranga Lakmal pitched his last ball of his first over, the second in the innings, short on leg that Tamim tried to pull away. The left-handed batsman however, saw the ball hit his wrist and had to leave the field retired hurt on two alongside the team physio.
Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud later informed that the left-handed batsman will not be available for the game and that they will assess whether he can take part in the remainder of the tournament.

“Medical reports have revealed fracture on his wrist. There is no chance for him to play the game [Saturday]. About his participation in the remainder of the tournament, we will do an assessment in two or three days’ time and come to a decision,” said Mahmud.
Bangladesh made a scary start in the match, losing two wickets in the first over of the innings with just one run on the board. Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga, who came back to the international arena after a while, got rid of Liton Das and Shakib al Hasan for nought to leave the Tigers in tatters. The struggle escalated as Tamim had to leave the field in the following over.
According to sources Tamim is likely to be out of action for at least six weeks, but the team management wants to give it time, and take a final decision in two to three days.
