Bangladesh women qualify for World T20I

Bangladesh women’s team qualified for the 2018 World T20I, scheduled to be hosted by the West Indies in November, after thrashing Scotland by 49 runs in the second semi-final of the Qualifiers in Amstelveen, the Netherlands Thursday. Ireland also advanced to the tournament proper after defeating Papua New Guinea by 27 runs in the first semi-final at the same venue Thursday.

The two teams will now face each other in the final in Utrecht Saturday. Bangladesh and Ireland join Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and host West Indies in the tournament finals, scheduled to be held from November 2-25.

Asked to bat first, the Tigresses posted 125 losing six wickets in their stipulated 20 overs, middle-order batter Nigar Sultana top-scoring with an unbeaten 31 off 36 balls. In reply, Scotland were restricted to 76 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs, as only two batters reached double digit. Spinners Rumana Ahmed and Nahida Akter bagged two wickets each for Bangladesh.
