Bangladesh seamer-allrounder Jahanara Alam dedicated the side’s Asia Cup win to the nation and thanked the millions of fans for their support. The Tigresses returned home Monday evening and were felicitated by the BCB for their glorious achievement.
Bangladesh defeated six-time Asia Cup champion India by three wickets in the final of the Asia Cup T20I 2018, gifting the nation its first major event title.
“We are aware of the success. Winning against India in the league phase while chasing 142 runs was a big result for most of us in the team. So when we faced them in the final, we were confident and we were not worried as we had nothing to lose. Achieving anything in the game would have been a bonus for us. I feel proud at being able to be a part of the Bangladesh women’s team, who have shown the world their ability after winning the Asia Cup. The win is an achievement for the nation,” said an elated Jahanara to the media Monday.
“If you remember, in the Asian Games 2014, we had lost wickets in the last over and I was standing still in the non-striker's end. So I had a flashback when I was on strike to face the last ball needing another two runs against India. I was determined that I have to score the runs anyhow as I might not get a bigger chance than this ever in my life. My plan was to play according to the merit of the ball and run for two, I had discussed my plan with Salma [Khatun] apa. And the rest of the story – you have all seen,” she added.
