Bangladesh T20I captain Salma Khatun said she and her team will remember the memory of winning the Women’s Asia Cup 2018 title for the rest of their lives. Bangladesh team left Dhaka recently with the hope of playing the final but instead ended up winning the six-nation regional competition defeating six-time Asia Cup champion India in the grand finale by three wickets at Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Sunday.
Bangladesh started the competition losing to Sri Lanka but made a brilliant comeback through five consecutive wins, including the final.
“Winning the Asia Cup for the first time is very special for us. I cannot express the happiness in words. We have earned a lot [Sunday] and will remember it for the rest of our lives,” said an elated Salma at the post-final presentation.

According to Salma, Bangladesh gained confidence and hope after their maiden international win against India in the league phase. Bangladesh had won that game by seven wickets chasing 142 runs.
“That win (against India) boosted our confidence level and inspired us in the final. We went to the field with the aim of doing well. We had nothing to lose but they (India) had a lot to lose. Eventually we finished earning a lot,” said Salma.
Bangladesh were backed by a good number of Bangladeshi residents in Kuala Lumpur. Salma said the immense support provided them a lot of encouragement.
“It always encourages us when we see supporters in the field. Their backing helped us to play well. We had a big crowd supporting us [Sunday] on the field. I am thankful to them for taking the trouble of coming here and supporting us,” said the Bangladesh all-rounder.
