Kamrul treating axing from central contracts list as learning curve

Right-arm pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi has taken his omission from the BCB central contracts list for the national cricketers as a sign that the country has produced better cricketers than him. The paceman has also overlooked the fact that the board has decreased the central contracts list. Kamrul is treating his removal as a learning curve. He said he needs to bounce back with better skills and performance and regain his place in the national dressing room. “It clearly hints that there are better bowlers than me and that I need to play well. Though the list has decreased I think I would have been in the list if I had performed,” said Kamrul to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday.

Kamrul explained that he has broken down the situation into two parts, “First is you can put yourself into thinking a lot and the other is concentrating on your own game. I was part of the contract because I had performed well and I am not part of it now because I underperformed.” The pace bowler, who has played five Test matches for the country since his debut in 2016, is hoping for a national call-up in Bangladesh’s next Test assignment, away to the West Indies in July this year. Kamrul said he will try to make best use of the opportunity if given a chance in the starting XI. As part of the process of returning strongly, Kamrul is working at the Mirpur nets with BCB Academy pace bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake and has also attended sessions with the Tigers’ interim head coach Courtney Walsh. “Of course I want to return to the team. If given the opportunity I will try to ensure not to repeat my mistakes and come back strong. I have worked with Champaka and Walsh recently and took lessons on how to be consistent. I worked on my wrist and how to swing the ball,” said Kamrul, who has bagged seven Test wickets in eight innings.
