Islami Bank East Zone opener Liton Das marked the third day of the game by registering his second first-class double hundred. Riding on the feat of the wicketkeeper-batsman and youngster Afif Hossain’s fourth century in the format, East Zone posted 592 runs losing six wickets in 136 overs at stumps on day three. East Zone lead by 46 runs in the first innings against Walton Central Zone in Rajshahi’s Shaheed Kamruzzaman Cricket Stadium.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune Thursday Liton informed that he did not have any particular plan while batting but, “I was taking it session by session and playing according to the merit of the ball. Afif played good as a partner and I am happy to have contributed for the team.”
East Zone resumed the day on their overnight score of 264 runs for the loss of three wickets in 46 overs with Liton and Afif unbeaten on 139 and 31 respectively. The duo held their nerve to propel the innings and bag individual feats in the process. Liton scored 274 before he was pinned in front of the stumps by spinner Elias Sunny.
Liton in his 293-ball innings hammered 35 boundaries and two over-boundaries while Afif made 142 off 227 deliveries with 15 fours and five sixes. All-rounder Shuvagata Hom picked up three wickets for Central Zone.
Liton has struck his second first-class double ton in the span of almost a year. His maiden double century in the format had come during the National Cricket League, the division-based four-day tournament, last year. Liton is leading the highest run-scorers’ list in the BCL with 779 runs at an average of 97.37, including three centuries and as many half-centuries, in 10 innings.
“I was very close to scoring 300, feels a bit bad to be honest but then again, as I said before, I’m happy to have been able to contribute for the team,” said Liton.
