Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal currently suffering from pain in the left knee doesn’t need to undergo surgery, informed chief BCB physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury Saturday. Dr Debashish said conservative rehabilitation is good enough to get Tamim back in action in around four weeks’ time.
According to Dr Debashish, Tamim complained of a troubled left knee during the home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year. However, given the importance of the matches, followed by his appearance in the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series in Colombo recently, Tamim was unable to take rest, and thus, the pain increased.
The left-hander following a one game stint with Peshawar Zalmi in Lahore last week in the Pakistan Super League T20 travelled to Bangkok for medical check-up. Dr Debashish informed that the medical reports suggested Tamim will be able to recover through conservative rehabilitation, which started Friday.
“The problem is he could not get proper rest after he got injured. He could have recovered early if he had rested but that was not possible. I had spoken to the team physio but the management did not rest him because of the importance of the matches back then. So he could not rest properly due to which the pain increased,” Dr Debashish explained to the media.
The chief BCB physician said Tamim will need at least three weeks to get over the pain and around four weeks to recover fully from the injury.
“He is under rest in order to allow the injury to heal. We are not going into medication or injection, rather, allowing the body to do the healing in the natural way. He will be given physiotherapy to get rid of the pain,” concluded Dr Debashish.
