Fantastic Kohli smashes series of records

Update : 10 Feb 2017, 09:42 PM
The right-handed top-order batsman took his stature to a grand new level after registering his fourth double century in as many consecutive Test series'. Kohli is the first man in the history of the game to achieve the astonishing feat. The Indian skipper scored a flawless 204 to guide India to 687 runs for six wickets before declaring their first innings on the second day of the ongoing one-off Test match against Bangladesh at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday. Kohli's previous three double delights came against England (235), New Zealand (211) and the West Indies (200). With 1168 runs in nine Tests, Kohli also became the highest run-scorer in a home season for India, surpassing Virender Sehwag’s previous best. Kohli also leapfrogged the legendary Sir Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, both of whom had three double hundreds in successive series. On a day when team India registered the second ever highest total in an innings by a team against Bangladesh, in less than five hours Kohli scored the double with 24 boundaries facing 239 balls. On this day, the 28-year old defined his class as he completed his double ton in the post-lunch session. An arm-ball from Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam had the India captain going for the late cut only to get trapped in front. Kohli now has nine Test hundreds as India captain, which means that he has equalled Mohammad Azharuddin’s record. Only Sunil Gavaskar (11) is ahead of him now. Kohli's talent was never in doubt but he needed to work on his Test numbers when he took charge as India Test captain from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. And Kohli has done it, and how!
