Tamim: Bangladesh excited to be back at P Sara Oval

An excited Bangladesh team underwent their first practice session, ahead of the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series, at P Sara Oval Stadium in Colombo Monday. The Tigers reached Colombo Sunday night to participate in the tri-series backed by horrendous performances at home in the recent past. Starting their Sri Lanka tour at P Sara, the Bangladesh cricketers tried to take inspiration from when they were last here at the venue - in March last year. The Tigers playing their 100th Test at the venue had recorded an emphatic four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka to level the two-match series 1-1. Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal had made crucial contribution with the bat in that game, scoring 49 and 82 runs to bag the man of the match award. According to the left-handed batsman, the Bangladesh team are feeling boosted since stepping into the P Sara.

"All of us were discussing it actually. We saw the wicket, the dressing room and recalled the memories of that Test. All those tensions in the dressing room, the moment when we could have lost the game and how we pulled ourselves up from it - all of us visualised those things. Everyone in the dressing room were speaking of it," said Tamim to Dhaka Tribune in the sideline of their practice session at P Sara Monday. Tamim, who spent a rest day Monday having just joined the team after playing in the Pakistan Super League T20, said, "It might be that I am a bit more excited than others. I went to see the wicket where I played those match-winning innings. It's always good to be back at places where you and the team have good memories." Bangladesh will start their Nidahas series campaign taking on India at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo Thursday. With prominent captain Shakib al Hasan recovering from injury, the side will be led by Mahmudullah. Before that, the Tigers will play a T20 practice game at Colombo Cricket Club Tuesday.
