Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, who retired from T20Is in April, 2017, will not return to the shortest format of the game, confirmed BCB president Nazmul Hasan at a press conference in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Monday.
There were rumours circling around surrounding Mashrafe’s return to the T20I fold for Bangladesh after the Tigers performed poorly in the recent series. It was learnt that the BCB tried to convince Mashrafe to return to the T20I format following a disappointing series against Sri Lanka. But the BCB boss confirmed that Mashrafe will not make a comeback. As a result, he is not under consideration at the moment.
“I have personally requested Mahsrafe to get back to the T20I format for Bangladesh before the recently concluded home series. But Mashrafe did not show any interest then. This time we again sent message to him while the media has written about it. But as far as I know, Mashrafe completely said ‘no’ regarding his return in T20Is. That’s why we are not considering him at the moment,” Nazmul said to the media.
Mashrafe played 54 T20Is for Bangladesh and took 42 wickets in 53 innings and scored 377 runs in 39 innings.
