In what turned out to be a wonderful gesture, Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal consoled a distraught young cricket fan during the first of two T20Is between the Tigers and Sri Lanka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Thursday.
The young boy, coincidentally also named Tamim, was seen crying in front of gate No 2 of the Mirpur Stadium during the match, which was noticed by the authority. Upon requests of the nearby people, the boy was taken to meet with his idol Tamim.
The Tigers opener hugged the young boy when they met and gave him one of his jerseys. The family of the boy was unhappy about his interest in cricket as they feel it distracts him from his studies. The boy would often be punished as a consequence.Upon hearing this, Tamim called the boy’s parents and implored them to not punish the boy any further for his interest in sports.
“When I heard about this, I felt sad. That's why I decided to call his guardians,” Tamim said.
Tamim missed the first of two T20Is against the Lankans due to injury concern.
