Rubel suffers injury ahead of tri-series

Right-arm paceman Rubel Hossain is the latest cricketer to fall prey to injury ahead of the tri-nation ODI series comprising host Bangladesh and visiting sides Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Rubel hurt his left thumb during practice at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday. The Bangladesh pacer underwent an x-ray Wednesday and the outcome might put him in jeopardy as far as his participation in the tri-series is concerned. According to the BCB’s chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, Rubel has damaged a bone in his left thumb. A second set of medical tests Thursday will determine if Rubel has picked up any fracture.

Dr Debashish explained Rubel will not face any trouble while bowling, given he is a right-arm pace bowler, but there is doubt if he can bat properly. On the other hand, opening batsman Imrul Kayes is recovering well from hair line fracture on his left thumb. The left-hander attended batting session in Mirpur Wednesday. Imrul stills feels pain in the injured area which, Dr Debashish believes, will heal in the coming days. Bangladesh cricketers are preparing to start the New Year with the tri-series, starting Monday.
