Fear Fighters plea falls on deaf ears

Dhaka Second Division Cricket League side Fear Fighters Sporting Club have requested the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis to remove their ban from participating in any division of the Dhaka League. A club representative went to the CCDM office Tuesday and submitted a written request to the committee’s chairman to allow Fear Fighters participate in the Dhaka Second Division League, scheduled to start soon. Fear Fighters were scratched from playing in any division of the Dhaka League last year after a special committee formed by the BCB found the side not playing in the spirit of the game. The committee in its investigation found that Fear Fighters bowler Tasnim Hasan had voluntarily conceded 69 runs in 1.1 overs against Indira Road Krira Chakra in protest at alleged biased umpiring in Dhaka Second Division Cricket League. The BCB slammed a 10-year ban on Tasnim while the club were scratched for "tarnishing the image of Bangladesh cricket". CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed informed that the decision stands against the club.

“The board had suspended the two clubs. This was due to the unsportsmanlike conduct, suspicion of corruption and bringing disrepute to Bangladesh cricket nationally and internationally. The suspension still stands,” said Kazi Inam to Dhaka Tribune Tuesday. Fear Fighters claimed that no official letter on the suspension was served to the club by the board or the CCDM. Kazi Inam said serving a letter was not mandatory as the decision was announced in the media. In the same season in the Dhaka Third Division Cricket League, Sujon Mahmud and his team Lalmatia Club were found guilty of similar offence. A similar punishment was dished out to Sujon as that of Fear Fighters. Sujon playing for Lalmatia Club against Axiom Cricketers in the Dhaka League's third tier last year, gave away 65 wides and bowled 15 no-balls in an over that eventually lasted as many as 20 deliveries. He conceded 92 runs in just four legal deliveries. The club and the cricketer had claimed that the action was a protest against alleged biased umpiring in the tournament.
