“Obviously I am very excited. It’s an honour for me and also a big responsibility. In previous meetings there were no representatives from Bangladesh. So they might have limited ideas about the problems we are facing here and the facilities we are getting here while playing cricket. So I might share our thoughts with them,” said Shakib to the media. There are quite a few agendas which will be discussed in the meeting for the development of cricket worldwide. Shakib admitted he needs to prepare himself for the meeting. “I have not taken the preparation yet but definitely I will prepare myself before the meeting. There are several agendas which will be discussed in the meeting. There are quite a few agendas related to development of Test cricket as well. I know those subjects but I need to study a little bit on those,” he said. Apart from Shakib the other members are Mike Gatting (chairman), Ramiz Raja, Sourav Ganguly, Charlotte Edwards, Vincent van der Bijl, Jimmy Adams, Rod Marsh, Tim May, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Shakib, Ian Bishop, Kumar Dharmasena and Bates.

Shakib was added to the elite list in October last year with the other three new members - Bishop, Dharmasena and Bates. Chairman of the MCC’s World Cricket Committee, Gatting earlier praised Shakib’s inclusion to the Committee and hoped Shakib will bring valuable contribution. “Shakib is the first Bangladeshi player to have joined the committee and has great experience of the world game across all formats, both domestically and internationally, and we look forward to his contributions along with the rest of the new additions,” Gatting said. Eight of the 10 Full ICC Member nations have been represented on the committee, and there is a regular turnover of members in order to keep the World Cricket Committee supplied with fresh ideas and initiatives. MCC is the world’s most active cricket club, the owner of Lord’s ground and the guardian of the laws of the game.
