“I did not hear of any such thing (Bangladesh hosting the Asia Cup). In the meeting previous to the last one, India were named as the host for the Asia Cup 2018 and we had agreed on that. I do not see any chance for Bangladesh to host the tournament. However, there might be an opportunity if India do not host the tournament. We (Bangladesh) will be delighted to host the tournament if there is such a situation,” said BCB supremo Nazmul to the media Wednesday. Meanwhile, the BCB’s search for the next national head coach is yet to see light. The governing body of cricket in Bangladesh has been looking for a coach since former Sri Lanka cricketer Chandika Hathurusingha resigned from the post last month. Bangladesh are waiting to start the new year, 2018, with the tri-nation series comprising Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, followed by the Test and T20I home series against the Lankans. Hathurusingha is expected to lead the Sri Lanka side as the coach during their tour of Bangladesh.

BCB chief Nazmul informed that the board is not in any hurry to assign a coach. Rather, they are biding their time to find the best option. The BCB president Nazmul said the board had discussions with the current support staff of the team, and also with the senior members of the side, who said they can manage the upcoming schedule on their own. “We are yet to finalise a name as the head coach. We had discussions with a few who will visit Dhaka in the coming weeks (for interview with the BCB). Two of the contenders have already given interview to the board and there are names who are already working somewhere and cannot take the Bangladesh job before completing their commitment,” he said. “We had discussions with the current support staff and the players and came to a point that a coach is not necessary for the upcoming series. We do not want to hurry into it,” BCB boss Nazmul explained.
