Shakib: Gayle’s dropped catch by me cost us the match

Update : 13 Dec 2017, 08:46 AM
Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib al Hasan admitted that the dropped catch of Chris Gayle by himself proved to be the turning point of the BPL 2017 grand finale. Dhaka were condemned to a 57-run defeat by Rangpur Riders as opener Gayle smashed 146 off 69 balls. Shakib dropped the catch of Gayle in the sixth over when he was batting on only 22. “I missed the catch of Gayle. That was costly. And I think we did not bowl on good areas against Gayle. If he gave one or two more chances then we could have tried. But he did not give any chance after that,” said Shakib during the post-match press conference at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.Shakib bowled only three overs in the match, despite bowling well in his first spell of two overs. When questioned why he did not come on to bowl later onwards the Dhaka captain said Gayle was the reason. “It was difficult for me to bowl against Gayle as I am a left-arm spinner. It can be easy for him to slog. So I had to wait. But eventually, I had to bowl the last over as he stayed there until the end,” informed Shakib. Dhaka elected to field and Shakib said the Dynamites camp were confident of chasing as they have a long batting order.“I think dew was a factor for taking that decision of fielding first. If we could have taken that Gayle catch then they could have been restricted within 130-140. Because it was not easy to bat out there. And we have plenty of batsmen in our batting order. So we decided to bowl first,” Shakib concluded.
