Former Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha revealed to BCB officials the reasons behind his resignation from the post Saturday.
Hathurusingha resigned from his post during the Tigers’ tour of South Africa and later, did not come to Bangladesh after the series against the Proteas. He arrived in Bangladesh Saturday morning to finalise his departure details. In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket appointed him as its head coach Friday.
Questions remained among the cricket fans and followers as to why Hathurusingha resigned. During this time, the BCB was unable to give the proper answer regarding his resignation.
Hathurusingha sat for two meetings with BCB officials at a city hotel. At first, he sat with CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan and media and communications committee chairman Jalal Younus, among others. Then he sat with BCB boss Nazmul Hasan.

Hathurusingha cited the players’ attitude and unprofessional behavior behind his resignation. He also said Shakib al Hasan’s decision to take a leave before the South Africa tour was also an important factor behind his resignation. BCB chief Nazmul informed this to the media Saturday evening.
“Hathurusingha had dissatisfaction from the beginning of Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa. He had objection about the mentality of the players. He did not support Shakib’s leave of absence before the Test series. He has a different kind of mentality. Hathurusingha’s point of view was, ‘Why would Shakib not play? He is such an important player for the team and country. So why will such an important player not play in a significant away series like South Africa?’” said BCB supremo Nazmul after meeting Hathurusingha.
“There were some incidents during the South Africa tour as well. Hathurusingha believes he has nothing more to give to Bangladesh cricket. He thinks if things are going this way, then it would not be possible for him to take Bangladesh cricket further ahead,” he added.
Although Hathurusingha informed this verbally, he has not submitted the report for the South Africa tour yet.
