Suspended Hafeez skips BPL commitment with Comilla

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has decided to skip his commitment with BPL franchise Comilla Victorians in the fifth edition of the money-spinning tournament after his bowling action was declared illegal by the ICC. The off-spinner was subsequently banned from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect Thursday. Match officials reported Hafeez in last month’s third one-day international against Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan cricketer was scheduled to join Comilla Saturday ahead of their upcoming match against Rangpur Riders on the same day. Regarding his decision to pass on the opportunity to feature for Comilla, Hafeez said, "I have decided not to go to Bangladesh to join Comilla. I want to stay back in Lahore. Before appearing for my bio-mechanic test at an ICC-accredited laboratory, I want to work on my bowling action." It was learned that Hafeez would undergo his test at Lahore University of Management Sciences.

In the ICC statement it was mentioned that "The assessment revealed that the majority of his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.” Hafeez, 37, has been suspended on two previous occasions for the same offence and served a 12-month ban from July, 2015 after his action was found to be illegal for the second time in a two-year period.
