Five ducks as Bangladesh U19s go 2-1 down

Five batsmen were dismissed without troubling the scorer as Bangladesh U-19 suffered a 45-run defeat in the fourth and penultimate one-day match to go 2-1 down against their Afghanistan counterpart in Sylhet Wednesday. Chasing the visitor’s modest 133-all out in 45 overs, the host were skittled out for 88 in what was yet another abject batting display from the junior Tigers. As many as five batters departed for ducks with only Mahidul Islam Ankon (43) and Nayeem Hasan (30) reaching double figure.

Mujeeb was the wrecker in chief for the visiting side, bagging seven wickets conceding just 19 in 9.3 overs, including two maidens. Earlier, the tourist were asked to take first guard as they made 133 before losing all of their wickets. Nayeem (5/38) led the way for the home side with the ball while captain Saif Hasan (3/7) and Hasan Mahmud (2/25) provided valuable support.

The Afghan batsmen fared little better than the opposition as only four of them reached double digit with Nisar Wahdat top-scoring with 53. The fifth and final one-dayer will be held Friday at the same venue. The junior Tigers had won the first game by a huge margin of 145 runs before the second match was lost to rain and wet outfield.
