Bangladesh bowlers exhibit team effort against CSA XI

Bangladesh bowlers put in a disciplined effort as Cricket South Africa XI declared their first innings on 313 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 91 overs during day two of their three-day warm-up match in Benoni Friday. In the process, CSA XI took a seven-run lead, which the Tigers later cut down to just one as the visiting side ended their second innings on six without loss in three overs at stumps. Openers Liton Das and Imrul Kayes were unbeaten on two and four respectively. Earlier in the day, the tourist managed eight wickets between themselves with paceman Shafiul Islam leading the way with two scalps.

Pacers Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Subashish Roy and spinners Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam all picked up a wicket apiece. Shaun von Berg top-scored for CSA XI with a 110-ball 62, featuring eight fours and a six while Zubayr Hamza chipped in with a valuable 101-ball 60, including 10 fours. Mathew Christensen (53 off 123 balls), Matthew Breetzke (44 off 89 deliveries) and Migael Pretorious (42 off 23 balls) were also among the runs. Earlier on Thursday in the opening day, the Tigers made a good start with the bat in their first innings, declaring on 306/7 in 74.1 overs.

The Bangladesh innings was boosted by three half-centuries from top-order batsman Mominul Haque, Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim and middle-order batter Sabbir Rahman. The Tigers batted first only to see the left-handed Tamim Iqbal last just 13 balls to score five before walking off from the field with pain of a pulled muscle. According to the Bangladesh team management, Tamim was “doing okay” and was to be sent for scans to further understand the nature of the injury. Tamim’s departure however, did not have any impact on the Bangladesh innings as the other opener Soumya Sarkar, along with Imrul steadied the innings.

Soumya and the Bangladesh think-tank should be relieved as the southpaw got among the runs scoring 43. With that said, Soumya faced only 69 deliveries with the help of eight fours. Imrul departed for 34, featuring four boundaries, to break the partnership and was soon followed by Soumya. The dismissals saw Mominul and Mushfiq then put together a 100-plus partnership for the third wicket.In the 48th over of the innings, CSA XI made double blow as left-arm pacer Michael Cohen dismissed Mominul for 68, studded with nine fours, in the fourth ball of the over to start a small debacle. The CSA XI pacer was on a hat-trick after dismissing middle-order batsman Mahmudullah for a golden duck in the very next ball. Cohen picked up two more wickets in his next over, this time removing Mushfiq for 63, including eight fours, and Liton for a two-ball duck to leave Bangladesh reeling on 220/6.
