‘Win against UAE boosted us’

Update : 27 Feb 2016, 07:17 PM

Hosts Bangladesh began their campaign in the Asia Cup Twenty20 with fresh memories of their recent successes. A 45-run loss against sub-continent rival India however, had slightly shaken the confidence of the Tigers.

The Tigers though ensured they would suffer no more hiccups against the United Arab Emirates in their second game as the Associate side’s challenge was duly nullified by the home side in a 51-run victory.

Although Bangladesh’s first win in the 14th edition of the regional competition came against a comparatively weaker opponent in the UAE, top-order batsman Sabbir Rahman believes the victory will nevertheless get the Tigers back on track and help them to regain their lost poise when they face Sri Lanka today.

“The win against UAE has enabled us to recover our lost confidence. It does not matter if it was a big or small game. We also won the game with a good margin so that gives you some boost and this is good for the games ahead,” Sabbir told the press conference previewing the clash in Mirpur yesterday.

“The team who plays better cricket will win. T20 is a format where strength and experience matters only a little."
