The fact that the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium needs to be handed over to the International Cricket Council 10 days before the start of the Under-19 World Cup completely slipped out of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s mind. As a result, they now hastily shifted the scheduled international bilateral series against Zimbabwe from Sylhet to Khulna.
Sylhet will host three matches of the upcoming 11th edition of the U-19 World Cup. However, carelessness from the board officials led to the embarrassing situation yesterday as BCB director Sheikh Sohel tackled the negligence in a clever manner. It should be mentioned that the BCB earlier confirmed Sylhet as the only venue for the four Twenty20s against the African nation.
“Our initial plan was to host two matches in Sylhet and two in Khulna but considering the distance of the two districts and the potential media broadcasting hassles, we have decided to shift all the four games to Khulna,” said Sohel.
The influential BCB high-up also added that Zimbabwe will arrive in Dhaka this Monday and will travel to Khulna the following day. The four T20Is are scheduled to be held on January 15, 17, 20 and 21 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
