The Pran-Frooto BSJA (Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association) Media Cup Cricket 2015 got underway yesterday with eight matches taking place on the opening day of the 24-team tournament.
At the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium, Maasranga TV began the day’s proceedings by defeating New Age by 58 runs while Gazi TV beat BDnews24.com by 22 runs in the second game.
Dhaka Tribune, in the meantime, started the competition on a winning note after getting the better of Shokaler Khobor by four wickets.
Fielding first, Tribune skittled out Shokaler Khobor for just 47 runs. In reply, the Tribune batsmen guided their side to the destination for the loss of only one wicket. Tribune will face SA TV in their second and final group-stage match tomorrow at the same venue.
In the day’s other matches, The Daily Star recorded a 13-run win over Naya Diganta, Samakal overcame Jugantor by 77 runs, Bonik Barta suffered a 26-run loss against Channel I while Independent fell to a 18-run defeat against Kaler Kantho.
Former Bangladesh captain and Bangladesh Cricket Board director Khaled Mahmud and media committee chairman Jalal Younus were present as chief guests and distributed the prizes among the winners.
