BCB won't back two-tier Test cricket

Update : 27 Jun 2016, 08:46 PM

Bangladesh Cricket Board will not support the two-division structure in Test cricket, informed board vice president Mahbub Anam on Monday.

One of the major agendas in the International Cricket Council's ongoing board meeting in Edinburgh is the probable division of Test cricket into two structures but Mahbub said, “We don't support this proposal as cricket is such a game when you play against tough opponents, it helps you to improve more.

If we would not have played against the big teams in the ODIs then we may not have improved the way we have in the past few years. When we were an associate nation, we thought we are the kings but when we received the Test status, it was a totally different ball game for us. There's huge competition (in Tests).

And if we go backward from this position I think it will hamper our progress. The main job for ICC is to globalise cricket and not to create a particular class. I think a world organisation's aim shouldn't be like that.”

Meanwhile, BCB president Nazmul Hasan and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury have joined the ICC meeting at the Scottish capital.

In accordance with the current rankings, the West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will slip into division two and joined by the two best teams from the 2015-17 Intercontinental Cup.
