Mashrafe transforms Comilla reputation

Update : 07 Dec 2015, 07:17 PM

Ever since the blockbuster players’ draft ceremony of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20’s third edition, Comilla Victorians were considered as one of the weakest teams on pen and paper.

But under the leadership of Tigers limited-over skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Comilla became the first team to qualify for the last four after their convincing seven-wicket win over Barisal Bulls yesterday.

And according to Mashrafe, it was the all-round performance from his team, especially the local players, that was the major reason behind their success.

“In these type of tournaments where the big stars feature, the rest of the players look up to them and depend heavily on them to deliver. But when I was with Dhaka Gladiators the last time around, I told everyone that the foreigners will support us and it is the local players who should look after the responsibility of the side as this is our home ground. We (local players) know the pitch and conditions better,” Mashrafe told the media after the game.

“Although Liton [Kumar Das] and Imrul [Kayes] are not in the best of form, still I want them to guide the others. Ultimately, it’s our local cricketers who are playing very well and I always want to take help from my local boys,” said Mashrafe.

Mashrafe also touched on the issue of his latest injury. “I have consulted with the physio and I am suffering from a grade 1 tear in my hamstring. I will not be able to bowl at the moment. I have to go through a fitness test,” he added.
