Update : 28 Nov 2015, 06:20 PM

Bangladesh women began their 2016 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Group A Qualifiers with a thumping 73-run victory over hosts Thailand at Thailand Cricket Ground in Bangkok yesterday.

Asked to take first guard, the visitors posted a competitive 105/6 from their 20 overs with opener and player of the match Ayesha Rahman top-scoring with a 32-ball 30. Middle-order batter Farjana Haque blasted a quick 21-ball 23 to propel the women in red and green past the 100-run mark.

In reply, the home side capitulated to just 32-allout in the face of some devastating bowling by Bangladesh. Fahima Khatun, Ritu Moni and Rumana Ahmed shared six wickets between themselves while captain Jahanara Alam and Shaila Sharmin picked up a wicket each.

Bangladesh will take on their Scottish counterparts today at Asian Institute of Technology Ground, Bangkok at 9am.

The top two teams from Group A and B will move to the semi-finals. Only the finalists will progress to the main event, scheduled to be hosted by India.
