Siddikur on verge of World Classic Championship glory

Update : 14 Nov 2015, 06:47 PM

Siddikur Rahman powered to the top to jointly lead the World Classic Championship after round three at the Laguna National Golf and Country club in Singapore yesterday.

After two rounds of even-par, the Bangladeshi golfing sensation carded a superb three-under-par 69 to share the top spot with Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung.

This is the second time in as many weeks that the 31-year-old stands a chance to win a tournament. Siddikur agonizingly missed the opportunity of lifting his third Asian Tour title in the Panasonic Open India last week.

Siddikur’s patience was finally rewarded when he returned with a red number on his card. He opened the penultimate round with a birdie and went on to club four more birdies.

“It’s great to shoot a red number today after two 71s. Honestly, I really enjoyed my round (yesterday). I gave myself very good chances out there. I managed to grab those chances and came back with a low score. I am really happy with how I played (yesterday),” said Siddikur.

The two-time Asian Tour winner added, “It’s not an easy course. You have to be patient. It will be the same (today). I think it will be both physically and mentally challenging. It’s the final round. We are all tired. I think whoever has the strongest stamina and a good mental game has the chance to win (today).”

Meanwhile, India’s Chikka S continued his push for his maiden win on the Asian Tour by signing for a 67 to share third place with Thailand’s Danthai Boonma and Berry Henson of the United States at the $750,000 event.
