With the aim of improving the overall standard of school cricket in the country, Bangladesh Cricket Board is planning to organise a different school cricket tournament in January, 2016.
Unlike the previous editions, cricket’s regulatory body in the country will scout talented young cricketers in the upcoming edition in which around 540 schools are scheduled to participate.
Around 7,500 budding cricketers will be participating in the tournament with the 50-over matches slated to be held across 70 different venues.
Prime Bank Limited will sponsor the forthcoming edition of school cricket along with the next five editions.
“BCB and Prime Bank will work together to develop the young cricketers right from the root level. They will represent Bangladesh in the future. Initially, the district-level schools will take part in the tournament and the champions will later play in the division-level tournaments. Gradually there will be national age-level tournaments too,” the board’s media committee chairman Jalal Younus informed the media yesterday during the logo-unveiling ceremony of the tournament at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury on the other hand said, “Prime Bank will be financing the tournament for the next six years and they will work together with the BCB during the tournament.”
