Dhaka prevail despite Tamim heroics

Update : 02 Dec 2016, 10:58 PM
Table-toppers Dhaka Dynamites continued their dominance in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20's fourth edition beating high-flying Chittagong Vikings comfortably by six wickets in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday. Despite a magnificent fifty from Tamim Iqbal, Chittagong managed to post a modest total of 134/6 which Dhaka chased down without facing any difficulty. Dhaka romped home with ten balls to spare with Alauddin Babu remaining unbeaten on 33 and Andre Russell not out on 31. Kumar Sangakkara was the highest scorer with a run-a-ball 35, featuring five fours, but Mehedi Maruf (nine), Nasir Hossain (13) and Mosaddek Hossain (nine) all departed in quick succession. However, Babu, who was promoted to the No 5 position utilised the opportunity, smashing two sixes and a four while Russell blasted three sixes and a boundary to seal a comprehensive win. With this win, Dhaka cemented their position at the top of the points table with eight wins from 11 games while Chittagong are still second with six wins from the same number of matches as the capital city outfit. Earlier, Chittagong, asked to bat first, suffered a huge blow after losing opening batsman Chris Gayle for one. The giant hitter was dismissed by fellow countryman Russell. The port city outfit kept losing wickets at regular intervals, heaping more and more pressure on Tamim at the other end. However, the dashing left-hander, who is in terrific touch, once again shone with the bat. Chittagong captain Tamim Iqbal pierces the point and backward point region during his 74-run knock DHAKA TRIBUNETamim struck his third consecutive fifty, and fifth overall, in BPL 4 and went on to hammer a magnificent 59-ball 74, studded with half a dozen fours and three huge sixes. Perhaps his most eye-catching shots were the gorgeous sixes over cover and long-on region, both coming against Dwayne Bravo. Tamim is now the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 425 runs in 11 games at an average of 47.22. But it was not enough for his side who put up a below-par total at the end. Shoaib Malik was the second highest scorer with 33 off 25 balls as Chittagong managed to add just 35 runs in their last five overs. With the exception of Tamim and Malik, none of the batsmen reached double figures. Bravo was the pick of the Dhaka bowlers with figures of 3/27 from his four overs while pacer Ronsford Beaton bagged two wickets in his maiden BPL appearance.BRIEF SCOREDhaka Dynamites 135/4 in 18.2 overs (Sangakkara 35, Babu 33*, Russell 31*) beat Chittagong Vikings 134/6 (Tamim 74, Malik 33, Bravo 3/27)  POINTS TABLETEAMS M W L PTSDhaka 11 8 3 16Chittagong 11 6 5 12Khulna 11 6 5 12Rajshahi 11 5 6 10Rangpur 10 5 5 10Comilla 11 4 7 8Barisal 11 4 7 8 SATURDAY'S MATCHESRangpur Riders v Barisal Bulls, 1pmChittagong Vikings v Rajshahi Kings, 5:45pmBoth games will be held at SBNS, Mirpur
